In Kapurthala district, Punjab, authorities apprehended 14 young women, six of whom were Nigerian and Ghanaian nationals, accused of blackmailing and robbing pedestrians during nighttime hours. Acting on complaints filed by Varinder Singh and Arvinder Kumar, the police intervened after reports surfaced of young women enticing individuals along GT Road in Phagwara.

ASI Darshan Singh stated that armed with knives and other weapons, the women, predominantly in their early 20s, would lurk in isolated areas, threatening victims with false allegations if resisted. Gaurav Dheer, Station House Officer of Satnampura, disclosed that the suspects hailed from neighboring Jalandhar district and were not enrolled as students.
Following raids prompted by the complaints, law enforcement detained the accused, whose foreign nationals’ passport information and visa validity are currently under verification.

The Satnampura police station officials filed two separate cases under IPC sections 384, 506, and 341 and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
This incident follows previous arrests by Phagwara police, where 32 women, including nationals from Nigeria, Thailand, and Ghana, were apprehended in unrelated cases.
