Mumbai Crime Branch has apprehended three individuals from Vadodara in connection with a hoax bomb threat email sent to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and two other private banks. The threatening emails demanded the resignation of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. Following technical evidence, unit 12 of the crime branch detained Arshil Iqbal Tapola (27), Adil Malik, and Waseem Memon (35).
The main accused, Tapola, is expected to be the primary arrestee, as the threat mails were traced back to his laptop and IP address. The email was sent from a Gmail ID created by Tapola, who holds a BBA degree and is involved in share market trading. The two other detainees are considered accomplices, with their SIM card used in the crime. While they may have aided or abetted, they have not confessed to any involvement. The Mumbai police received a complaint from the RBI about the threat mail, prompting an investigation and alert across specified locations.
The threatening email claimed the placement of 11 bombs at different Mumbai locations, alleging a major scam involving top officials, ministers, and banks. The threats were directed at the RBI governor, finance minister, and prominent banking figures.
