Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Nations has said that Kyiv supports a “full and transparent investigation” into the missile that fell in Poland.

Sergiy Kyslytsya said in his statement to the UN Security Council on Wednesday that Ukraine expresses solidarity with the Polish people following the missile strike on the Polish village of Przewodow, which resulted in the deaths of two persons.

“Ukraine expresses its solidarity with brotherly Polish people following yesterday’s tragedy in the village of Przewodow, where two people were killed by missiles,” Sergiy Kyslytsya said. “We support a full and transparent investigation to establish all the facts of this tragic incident and we are ready to cooperate with the Polish side to contribute to this investigation,” he added.

Sergiy Kyslytsya claimed that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which includes frequent missile assaults as a significant component, continues to be the “sole root cause of violence and human suffering in Ukraine” in his statement at the UNSC meeting on the “Maintenance of peace and security of Ukraine.”

Kyslytsya charged that Russia regularly suffers military and diplomatic setbacks and as “revenge,” it engages in “nasty attacks” against people. He emphasised that this is the “only sort of retaliation” available to Russia. According to Kyslytsya, approximately 400 Russian war crimes have been documented by investigators, and both civilian and military bodies have been discovered.

The missile that killed two people in Poland on Tuesday was allegedly fired by Ukrainian forces, according to NATO and Polish leaders. According to reports, the leaders claimed that the incident appeared to be an accident. The explosion happened outside of Przewodow, which is close to the Ukrainian border.

Notably, the missile landed in Poland roughly at the same time as Russia launched its missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. Polish President Andrzej Duda said while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, that there was a “high chance” it was an air defence missile from the Ukranian side.

Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General  said, “Our preliminary analysis suggests that the incident was likely caused by a Ukrainian air defence missile fired to defend Ukrainian territory against Russian cruise missile attacks,” after attending North Atlantic Council’s meeting on Poland.

He stressed that the incident is not Uklraine’s fault and said, “But let me be clear. This is not Ukraine’s fault. Russia bears ultimate responsibility, as it continues its illegal war against Ukraine.”
