Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in delegation-level talks with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Both leaders adopted a new ‘India-Oman joint vision, a partnership for the future,’ outlining collaboration in ten different areas. PM Modi expressed confidence that this joint vision would modernize and enhance the partnership between the two nations.

During the meeting, PM Modi highlighted the ongoing discussions on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Oman. He expressed hope for a timely signing of the agreement, expecting it to contribute significantly to economic cooperation.

PM Modi welcomed Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to India, noting the historic significance of the Sultan’s state visit after 26 years. He congratulated Oman for qualifying for the T20I Cricket World Cup to be held in 2024.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State V Muraleedhararan, and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra were present during the meeting.

Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s state visit aims to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between India and Oman, exploring future collaborations in various sectors, including defence, culture, and economy.

Earlier, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik received a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan and inspected a Guard of Honour by the combined defence services. The visit is seen as an opportunity to reinforce longstanding ties between the two countries, exploring avenues for regional stability, progress, and prosperity.
