Prime Minister Narendra Modi will once again address an election rally in Udaipur, Rajasthan on Thursday. It will be an attempt to woo the tribal voters. Moreover, all eyes will also be on what indication PM Modi gives regarding the future role of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
There are indications that before the rally, most of the rebel candidates who are from Raje’s camp may withdraw their names. The party’s effort is to somehow persuade the rebels before the arrival of Prime Minister Modi. With the Udaipur rally, PM Modi aims to woo voters of 28 seats in Mewar region. It would also be interesting to see whether or not PM Modi gives a further push to issues having polarising potential. Union Home Minister Amit Shah raised the issue of Kanhaiya Lal’s murder which is a “polariser” of votes in the election.
Udaipur, where the PM will address a rally, is the place where Kanhaiya Lal was murdered. Prime Minister Modi has spoken on the Kanhaiya Lal murder case in earlier rallies. However, this will be his first rally after the start of the election process. The Prime Minister may refer to controversial issues like “Lal Diary”, paper leaks, women’s safety, law and order in Rajasthan, etc. He will try to woo tribals citing examples of how this community is being taken care of in BJP-ruled Gujarat.
The BJP is contesting the state elections on the face of Prime Minister Modi. If sources are to be believed, the Prime Minister will hold extensive election campaigns during Diwali. A large number of public meetings will also be organised along with road shows. The election will completely revolve around Prime Minister Modi.
However, at the same time, the BJP also wants to keep former Chief Minister Raje in good humour. Prime Minister Modi may give some hints regarding Raje in today’s rally. BJP has limited issues against Chief Minister Gehlot and his government. Therefore, the Prime Minister will showcase his government’s schemes during the rally. Gehlot has already said that the BJP has nothing except ED. He said, “We are going to win the elections on the basis of development and guarantees, these crazy people are spoiling the atmosphere by conducting ED raids.” It remains to be seen how Prime Minister Modi will respond to Gehlot’s allegations.
