Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly greeted by the Indian diaspora upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Outside Hotel Nacional, vibrant celebrations included a traditional dandiya dance performed by artists in colorful Gujarati attire and the chanting of Vedic mantras by Brazilian scholars. Members of the diaspora waved Indian flags, displayed pictures of PM Modi, and presented him with gifts as a gesture of respect.
One diaspora member expressed excitement, saying, “We wanted to meet the leader of one of the largest democracies in the world.” Another attendee shared their pride, stating, “It’s an honor to see him in person. This is a proud moment for us.”
PM Modi arrived in Rio on Monday, the second stop of his three-nation tour, following a productive visit to Nigeria. Indian delegates, led by Ambassador Suresh Reddy, welcomed him at the airport. On social media, the Prime Minister shared his excitement about the summit, writing:
“Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to take part in the G20 Summit. I look forward to the Summit deliberations and fruitful talks with various world leaders.”
Photos of his arrival captured the enthusiastic welcome by members of the Indian community.
Before Brazil, PM Modi visited Nigeria, where he met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The leaders discussed cooperation in areas such as defense, technology, health, and education, agreeing to work together on development goals for the Global South. India also announced the delivery of 20 tons of humanitarian aid to assist with Nigeria’s flood relief efforts.
At the G20 Summit, PM Modi will represent India as a Troika member, building on the momentum from India’s presidency last year. He is expected to participate in key discussions with world leaders and further strengthen India’s global partnerships.
