Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a ceremonial welcome at Singapore’s Parliament House on Thursday, where he was greeted by Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The two leaders exchanged warm pleasantries, and PM Modi signed the visitors’ book during his visit.
As part of his engagements, PM Modi and PM Wong met with ministers and delegates from both nations. Modi arrived in Singapore on Wednesday and is scheduled for a series of key meetings aimed at strengthening India-Singapore relations.
The day includes a bilateral meeting between the two prime ministers, during which several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed. PM Modi will also tour AEM Holdings Ltd’s semiconductor facility, accompanied by Lawrence Wong, following a luncheon hosted by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Additionally, PM Modi is set to meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. After attending a business meeting with CEOs, he will return to New Delhi.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shared his enthusiasm about meeting Lawrence Wong, describing the discussions as excellent and reaffirming India’s strong friendship with Singapore. Wong also shared their meeting on X, welcoming Modi for a dinner at the Istana, the official residence of Singapore’s president.
Ahead of the visit, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the significance of the trip, noting that it will further solidify India-Singapore ties. Modi was warmly received by Singapore’s Minister for Home Affairs and Law, K Shanmugham, at Changi Airport. He was also greeted by members of the Indian community, signing autographs and even playing the dhol in celebration.
Before arriving in Singapore, PM Modi visited Brunei, where he held extensive talks with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah to strengthen bilateral relations and inaugurated the new Chancery of the High Commission of India in Bandar Seri Begawan.
