Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian diaspora community in Nigeria, highlighting their pivotal role in realizing the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. He emphasized India’s strides in various sectors, from defence to space, and its growing global economic influence.
PM Modi pointed out India’s significant achievements in defence manufacturing, stating:
“India’s defence exports have increased almost 30 times. Today, we export defence equipment to over 100 countries.”
This leap, he said, reflects India’s commitment to self-reliance and innovation.
Highlighting India’s ambitious space goals, PM Modi mentioned the upcoming Gaganyaan mission, which aims to send Indians into space.
“India is also planning to establish its own space station,” he revealed, showcasing the country’s determination to lead in cutting-edge technology.
Touching upon economic progress, PM Modi shared:
“During colonial rule, our economy was in shambles. It took 60 years to cross $1 trillion. But in the last decade alone, India added $2 trillion to its economy. Today, we’re the fifth largest economy, and soon, we’ll be a $5 trillion economy.”
PM Modi praised the Indian community in Nigeria for their contributions to the local economy.
“You are working shoulder to shoulder with Nigeria for its development, embodying the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family.”
As India gears up to celebrate 100 years of independence in 2047, PM Modi called on the diaspora to continue their support in shaping a prosperous, developed India.
