National Unity Day is observed on the birth anniversary of the nation’s first home minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Patel with flowers at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat’s Narmada.

The ‘Statue of Unity’, dedicated to Sardar Patel, was inaugurated here by PM Modi on October 31, 2018.
The Prime Minister administered the oath of unity to the gathering at a function in Ekta Nagar (City of Unity), earlier known as Kevadia in Narmada district.
On the 148th birth anniversary of the ‘Iron Man’, Prime Minister Modi witnessed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) parade, comprising marching contingents from the Border Security Force and the state police force.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, also known as National Unity Day, has been observed on October 31st since 2014. People from all walks of life participate in the nationwide “Run for Unity” events held on this occasion. The Prime Minister was treated to a variety of events, including a daredevil show by all-female CRPF bikers, a women’s pipe band from the BSF, a choreographed program by Gujarat women police, a special NCC show, a school bands display, an Indian Air Force flyby, and a demonstration of the viability of vibrant villages economically. Later on, Prime Minister Modi will also dedicate and lay the cornerstone for several development projects totaling Rs 160 crore.
