In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming rally in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh BJP President Bhupendra Chaudhary praised the Prime Minister’s governance on Saturday, emphasizing that he has not only made promises but has also fulfilled them.

“It is a matter of pride for all of us that our government and Prime Minister Modi have not only made promises but have also fulfilled them,” said Bhupendra Chaudhary.

Chaudhary highlighted the beginning of the election campaign for the first phase and emphasized PM Modi’s upcoming public address.

“PM Modi will participate in a public event tomorrow. The election campaign for the first phase has begun. PM Modi will address a public meeting and provide a report of the past 10 years of his government,” said Bhupendra Chaudhary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign for the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh from Meerut on March 31, where he will deliver a public rally.

The BJP has nominated Arun Govil from Meerut, the actor renowned for portraying Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan in the 80s, conveying a message related to the Ayodhya temple, which was inaugurated earlier this year.

The BJP is optimistic about Western UP and aims to achieve its ambitious target of 370 seats independently, despite facing setbacks in the previous elections. In 2014, the BJP secured 24 out of 27 seats in the region, which reduced to 19 in 2019, with all eight seats going to the SP-BSP alliance.

In 2019, BJP candidate Rajendra Agarwal won the Meerut seat by defeating SP-backed BSP candidate Haji Yakub Qureshi by a narrow margin of less than 5,000 votes.

In 2014, the BJP won a remarkable 71 seats in the state. However, in 2019, with a formidable alliance between the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the ruling alliance’s seat count decreased to 64. Despite the BSP securing 10 seats, the SP failed to surpass five.

The Lok Sabha polls will be conducted in seven phases starting from April 19. Uttar Pradesh, which sends the highest number of MPs, 80, to Parliament, will vote in all seven phases.

With the political landscape evolving in the state, the BJP is leading a strong alliance, including parties like the RLD, SBSP, Apna Dal (S), and Nishad Party, to strengthen its position. Meanwhile, while Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav aligns with the opposition bloc, Mayawati embarks on the electoral journey alone.

Voting for phases one and two will be held on April 19 and April 26. Subsequently, the state will vote again in phases three and four on May 7 and May 13. The Uttar Pradesh electorate will also vote in phases five, six, and seven on May 20, May 23, and June 1 respectively. The votes will be counted on June 4.
