While addressing the gathering of Bharat Mandapam on Sunday, Prime minister Narendra Modi announced, that India will give 1 million dollars for Unesco World Heritage Centre.
Talking to the gathering, PM Modi said ‘India will contribute 1 million dollars for Unesco World Heritage Centre.’
Furthermore, PM Modi also announced, that this grant will be utilized for capacity building, technical assistance and for preserving the world heritage sites.
Later, prime minister also emphasized on rich and diverse heritage of India. Asserting, that and each and every corner of the country has a story to tell, regarding its past.
To highlight his point, he gave an example of National capital Delhi. Speaking about Delhi he said ‘The world knows Delhi as the capital city of India. But this city is also the centre of thousands of years old heritage. Here you will see historical heritage at every step. About 15 Km from here, there is an iron pillar weighing several tons. A pillar which has been standing in the open for 2000 years, yet it is rust-resistant to date.’
Praising the architectural prowess of India, the prime minister gave the example of Kedarnath and Chola temples. Declared, that their architecture continues to amaze people even today.
Meanwhile on 21st July, PM Modi has inaugurated the 46th edition of World Heritage Committee at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
This is for the first time that India is hosting the heritage meeting. On this occasion, UNESCO director general Audrey Azoulay was also present.
Prior to this inauguration, PM Modi taking to X declared the event as ‘matter of immense joy.’ He also emphasized, that meeting will serve as a platform to keep the views regarding the preservation of heritage.

This meeting is set to take place from July 21 to July 31st 2024.
The world heritage refers to a committee of UNESCO which meets once a year to deal with the matters related to world heritage. Notably, it decides which sites should be included in world heritage list.
Additionally, the committee also talk about the nomination of new sites to world heritage list. It also undertakes state of conservation reports for 124 present world heritage properties.
And it takes international assistance and usage of world heritage funds into account.
