Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a discussion with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, shedding light on the multifaceted advancements and challenges surrounding technology in India, including Artificial Intelligence (AI). He recounted his own encounter with deepfake technology, underlining the complexities it poses.

PM Modi underscored India’s progressive stance in technology, emphasizing its approach to prevent monopolies and ensure accessibility for all citizens. He highlighted India’s global interest in technology at the G20 Summit, portraying it as a people-centric endeavor aimed at democratizing access. Modi also expressed his commitment to bridging the digital divide within India.

Modi acknowledged the proactive role of women in embracing new technologies in India. He showcased initiatives like the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme, designed to empower women through technology adoption. According to Modi, such initiatives have not only shifted mindsets but also created new avenues of opportunity for women.

Intriguingly, Modi discussed the integration of AI across various sectors of governance, including its utilization during the 2023 G20 Summit. He highlighted AI’s transformative impact on fields like healthcare, agriculture, and education, citing an instance where AI facilitated the translation of his Hindi speech into Tamil during a cultural event.

Modi emphasized the need to confront challenges arising from AI, particularly highlighting concerns surrounding deepfake technology. He proposed several measures to tackle these issues, including comprehensive training for AI systems, the addition of watermarks to AI-generated content, and the establishment of a regulatory framework to govern AI and deepfake technology.

Furthermore, Modi discussed India’s strides in renewable energy, particularly emphasizing advancements in Green Hydrogen. He lauded the launch of a hydrogen-powered boat in Tamil Nadu as a significant milestone and proposed its integration into the Kashi-Ayodhya route to support the Clean Ganga initiative.
