Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 11,000 crore, which include the Dhaula Sidh hydropower and Rs the 6,700 crore Renukaji dam in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. The new projects are climate-friendly and aim at conserving the environment
Additionally, Luhri Stage 1 hydropower project, Dhaulasidh Hydro Power Project and Sawra-Kuddu Hydro Power projects were also inaugurated during the event. PM Modi also praised Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, who has completed four years. During the rally, PM Modi said, “There are two development models in the state. One is ‘Sabka saath, sabka vikas and sabka vishwas’. The other model is ‘Khud ka swarth, pariwar ka swarth’. Himachal Pradesh government is working on the first model and has implemented many development programs in the state.”
While speaking about the vaccination for teenagers, he said, “Our government has announced Covid-19 vaccination for 15-18 years old from January 3, 2022, and ‘precaution dose’ for healthcare workers and senior citizens with comorbidities from January 10. I am confident that Himachal Pradesh will lead in achieving vaccination coverage.”
Further, he continued, “There are brave sons and daughters who protect the country. The work done by our government in the last seven years to enhance the security of the country, the decisions taken for the soldiers, ex-servicemen, and the people of Himachal have also benefited immensely.”
The BJP-led government is also concerned about waste management in the state. PM Modi also highlighted the work that is being done by the government on plastic waste management along with the nationwide campaign against single-use plastic.
PM Modi also reviewed the landslide monitoring and early warning system developed by the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi during his visit to Himachal Pradesh. As per IIT Mandi, “The device reduces landslides by predicting the soil movement in advance and is the only of its kind system in the world.” Dr Varun Dutt, Associate Professor, School of Computing and Electrical Engineering, and Dr K.V. Uday, Assistant Professor, School of Engineering developed the device that is a low-cost alternative to conventionally used monitoring systems. The Landslide Monitoring System provides soil movement alerts via hooters and blinkers installed on the road remotely via text message. Additionally, the system sends rainfall alerts in advance if more than 5 mm of rain is predicted.
Also, before the inauguration of the projects, PM Modi attended the second ceremony of the Global Investor’s meet, Himachal Pradesh. Along with CM Jai Ram Thakur, Union Minister Anurag Thakur was also present. The meeting is also expected to boost investment in the region with several development projects worth Rs 28,000 crore.
