Dr. Uttam Mete is currently working as Professor & Head in the Department of Urology , PGIMER, Chandigarh. His main areas of interests include uro-oncology, Robotics / Laparoscopic surgery, urinary stone treatment, reconstructive surgery etc. After assuming the office of the Head of the department he had introduced kidney transplantation with the help and active support of administration. This has reduced the waiting period of the patients awaiting renal transplantation and has made the residents eligible to practice renal transplantation after they pass out.

The Urological Society of India which is a registered society and is governed by its Rules, Regulations and Bye Laws. Its objects are to promote high standards in the practice of Urology , to associate together in one corporate body all scientific personnel actively interested in the practice of Urology in India, to foster high and uniform standards of undergraduate and postgraduate training in Urology in India. It also promotes research in Urology or other disciplines for improving the practice of Urology etc. it also has established liaison with other associations or organized bodies, in India or abroad like USA, UK, Australia, Canada and many more.

Currently it has approx 5500 members who are either M Ch or DNB in urology. Even persons with foreign qualifications in Urology equivalent to MCh or DNB recognized by MCI, and are exclusively practicing Urological specialty in India are also the members of this society. The Honorary Secretary is an important post in this society who looks after the day to day activity including making scientific programmes for the various meetings of the Society.

The secretary is elected by the members who vote for their preferred candidate. Winning this post and bringing the secretariat in PGI is praiseworthy. Under the able leadership from a person in the institute will not only help the growth of the society but also the growth of the department.
