In a veiled dig at the Samajwadi Party (SP) over the law-and-order situation when it was in power in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that people would not allow rioters and mafia to take control of the state from behind the curtains.
Speaking at a “Jan Chaupal” in western Uttar Pradesh via video conferencing, the Prime Minister said that these polls were meant to keep history-sheeters out and to make new history. “These polls are to maintain security, honour and prosperity. These polls are to keep history-sheeters out and to make new history. I’m delighted that people of UP have made up their mind that they won’t allow rioters and mafia to take control of UP from behind the curtains,” said PM Modi.
He further said that these elections were unique as they were for the establishment of peace in Uttar Pradesh.
“Uttar Pradesh has seen several elections after Independence. It has seen governments come and go. But these elections are unique. These are for the establishment of peace in Uttar Pradesh, for the continuation of development, for good governance, for the rapid development of people of Uttar Pradesh,” said the Prime Minister.
PM Modi said that in the 21st century, Uttar Pradesh needed a government that continuously worked at double speed and only a double-engine government could do this. “No one could have imagined that criminals would ever come under control. Yogiji has established the rule of law in UP. In the 21st century, UP needs a government that continuously works at double-speed and only a double-engine government can do this,” he added.
PM Modi also said that if they get a chance, the “fake Samajwadis” will stop the Minimum Support Price (MSP) from being given into the accounts of the farmers.
“If they get a chance, these fake ‘Samajwadis’ will stop the thousands of crores of rupees the farmers are getting. These fake ‘Samajwadis’ will stop the MSP money from going into the bank accounts of farmers. The free ration you are getting in this Covid period, these fake ‘Samajwadis’ will snatch it too.” Slamming the Opposition for spreading rumours regarding the provision of MSP to the farmers, PM Modi said that they have no other weapon left other than spreading rumours and lies.
“The double engine government is depositing the MSP to the bank accounts of the farmers. Just like they spread rumours about the COVID-19 vaccines, they spread rumours about the MSP also that it would be finished. They have no other weapon left other than spreading lies and rumours. But the government, in comparison to the government before 2017, has increased the purchase of MSP by many folds. They are the same political parties who had shut down more than two dozen sugar mills,” he said.
PM Modi was addressing the voters of Meerut, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Hapur and Noida districts via the Jan Chaupal.
Meanwhile in Gorakhpur, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the BJP would announce its election manifesto on Sunday. Speaking to the media on the occasion of the inauguration of the regional media centre of the party, he said, “For the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party will issue its Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra on 6 February (Sunday) on the issue of nationalism, development and good governance.”
