The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh on Thursday, in collaboration with the Semiconductor Research Centre (SRC), inaugurated a week-long Karyashala (High-end Workshop) titled “Design and Fabrication of Modern Antennas for 5G/6G Wireless Communication.” The workshop is scheduled to run from February 28 to March 5, 2024.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Shantanu Bhattacharya, Director of CSIO Chandigarh, and Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, Director of PEC, serving as the patron of the workshop. Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kumar Singh, Head of SRIC & Deptt. of ECE, chaired the event. The coordination of the workshop is led by Dr. Gourab Das and co-coordinated by Dr. Simranjit Singh, both faculty members of the ECE department.
The workshop is supported by the Science and Engineering Research Board and is a continuation of the 5G Use Case lab, offering hands-on training on mm-wave Antenna, THz Antenna, CP Antenna, and measurement techniques using equipment such as VNA and Spectrum Analyzer.

During the event, Registrar Col. RM. Joshi and members of the faculty were present. Dr. Gourab Das welcomed the guests and participants, providing an overview of the Karyashala workshop. Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kumar Singh highlighted the department’s research activities, including the Semiconductor Research Centre and 5G Use Case lab. He emphasized that the workshop aims to provide insights into the latest methodologies applied in 5G/6G antenna design and promote a deeper understanding of emerging technologies.

Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, Director of PEC, commended the department and coordinators for organizing the workshop on 5G/6G Wireless Communication. He expressed gratitude to the chief guest and praised the department’s research and technical activities.

Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Shantanu Bhattacharya provided scientific insights into 5G and 6G Communication during his address. He discussed radio devices, sensors, antennas, and signal strengthening devices, highlighting the need for advanced technologies such as AI, logical algorithm systems, and meta/nano materials in antenna design and fabrication for higher data rates. He acknowledged the challenges and wished for the successful completion of the workshop.
