The Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, the old Parliament building, resonated with solemnity as Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Harivansh Narayan Singh, led a group of parliamentarians in heartfelt floral tributes to the late former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary.

In a dignified gathering, Secretary General of Lok Sabha Utpal Kumar Singh joined in paying homage to the esteemed leader, emphasizing the significance of the occasion. As a mark of remembrance, a meticulously crafted booklet detailing the life and achievements of Chaudhary Charan Singh, published in both Hindi and English by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, was presented to the distinguished attendees.

This ceremony echoes the tradition initiated on December 23, 1993, when Chaudhary Charan Singh’s portrait was unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament House. The event was graced by the then-President of India, Dr. Shanker Dayal Sharma. The continued observance of this tradition underscores the enduring legacy and impact of the visionary leader on Indian political history.

Chaudhary Charan Singh, also known as a farmer leader, served as the fifth Prime Minister of India from July 1979 to January 1980. Additionally, he held the position of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice and served as a Union Minister under Morarji Desai’s government.
