Paris Olympics 2024: Tennis Star Rohan Bopanna & Sumit Nagal Acquire Olympics Quota Via ATP Rank

Tennis prodigy Rohan Bopanna and Sumit Nagal have acquired 2024 Paris Olympics quotas for India via ATP rankings (Association of Tennis Professionals) in their doubles and singles respectively.

Meanwhile, the window for Paris Olympics has recently closed on Monday for tennis and world’s number four Bopanna has easily acquired the quota, maintaining a comfortable position within the top 10 rankings in doubles competition since November last year.

Another tennis player Sumit Nagal has also acquired the quota, after he climbed 18 places in singles in previous week.

In the aftermath of clinching ATP Challengers title, at Germany’s Heilbronn Neckarcup, Nagal’s rank jumped from 95 to 77. Moreover, he is the last one to acquire quotas via rankings.

Meanwhile, at Paris Olympics 2024, both men and women’s singles competition will respectively consist of 64 players each. Currently, the top 56 players in men’s single rankings have already acquired quota via their rankings.

Later, the reserved spot was added in the pool, thus increasing the cutoff by 1 point, from 56 to 57. As a result, Nagal earned the final spot via his ranking.

Earlier, Sumit Nagal who participated in 2020 Tokyo Olympics was with the rank of 138th in January. But his exceptional performance this year, including his title win at Chennai open, eventually entered top 100 ATP rankings.

As for Olympics tennis, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) worldwide, will have to confirm quotas usage by July 19, as they have sole authority for country’s representation at multi-sport event. The Players’ participation in games is dependent on the selection to represent their nation’s flag at olympics.

Who Will Rohan Bopanna Team Up with for the Olympics?

The 44-year-old Rohan Bopanna is expected to choose world number 67 Sriram Balaji as his partner in the forthcoming Olympics, since the doubles competition features 32 teams for both women and men, with a maximum of two teams per country. Players can only qualify if they have a partner ranked within the top 300 in doubles competition.
