The state’s premier senior citizen home has been completed in Sector 27, Panchkula. Panchkula, a well-planned city in Haryana, serves as the state capital. The Municipal Corporation has constructed a seven-storey old age home in Sector-27 at a cost of Rs 11 crore 66 lakh, scheduled for inauguration on January 5, 2024. The old age home will be dedicated to the public following the completion of Kulbhushan Goyal’s three-year tenure as Mayor of the Municipal Corporation. Comprising approximately 90 rooms, the old age home can accommodate 160 elderly people, providing them with pure RO water. Additionally, 10 rooms will be designated for couples. Spread across 8500 square feet, the multi-story building will be the largest senior citizen home in the state and tricity, offering facilities comparable to a five-star hotel. The home will feature 24-hour medical care, refrigerators, color televisions, mattresses, fans, solar water heaters, wet grinders, a library, and nursing care facilities. This Senior Citizen Home aims to support senior citizens who are unable to live with their families or are destitute. The facility includes a multipurpose hall, kitchen, attached toilets, dining hall, doctor’s room, clinical lab, garden, and a large common hall, providing a residence for over 100 elderly people. Senior citizens will be under 24-hour camera surveillance, and the home is fully equipped with modern amenities. Well-ventilated common spaces have been planned for easy mobility with crutches and wheelchairs. In the multi-story building, there are two categories of rooms: single rooms and family rooms with a pantry and attached toilet. Each room provides ample space for storage, TV, internet access, and features a balcony and window for natural light and ventilation. Lifts for wheelchairs and stretchers have been installed for medical facilities and emergency provisions, along with ramps and stairs on all floors from the first floor to the sixth floor. Vehicle parking and office space on the basement and ground floors are specifically earmarked for stilts. The first floor of the complex includes a kitchen with a dining hall and provisions for recreational, interactive, and other indoor activities. Tiles have been installed on toilets and floors to minimize the risk of slipping. Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal highlighted that the state’s best senior citizen home has been built in Sector 27 at a cost of Rs 11 crore 66 lakh. The seven-storey old age home consists of three blocks with 90 rooms. Recognizing the challenges faced by the elderly in climbing stairs, four lifts have been installed to reach the upper floors, and the lifts have been tested.
