Over 26,000 enthusiastic young aspirants from across Jammu and Kashmir’s border district of Poonch participated in a major Army recruitment rally, marking the first such event in the region in five years.

The rally, held at the Advance Landing Ground in Surankote starting November 8, aimed to fill 307 vacancies for Soldier General Duty and 45 positions for clerks and tradesmen in the Territorial Army. Open to candidates from 31 Tehsils of Jammu division, including Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, and Jammu, the rally attracted a massive turnout of youth eager to serve their nation.

The recruitment drive, which lasted 10 days, provided a platform for candidates to demonstrate their physical fitness and mental preparedness. Participants underwent a series of physical tests, including a 1.6 km run, chin-ups, and endurance exercises, followed by medical checks and document verifications.

Army officials expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming response, noting the incredible enthusiasm of the candidates. “It’s inspiring to see such a high level of interest and passion among the youth to join the Indian Army. We are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent selection process,” said a senior officer from the Territorial Army.

More than 4,000 candidates successfully passed the physical tests and will proceed to the next stage of medical evaluations. The event has been hailed as a significant step toward addressing employment challenges in the border region while fostering a sense of pride and patriotism among local youth.

“This recruitment rally is not just about filling vacancies; it’s about providing opportunities for our youth and instilling a sense of service to the nation,” said Syed Imtiaz Kazmi, a prominent local citizen of Surankote.

The rally is also seen as a reflection of the Army’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its relationship with the people of the region, especially in areas that have faced socio-economic challenges. The recruitment process, conducted with strict adherence to safety protocols, is set to continue for the next few days.

Local aspirants, including Mohd Asad from Poonch, expressed their hopes to secure a place in the Army and contribute to the nation’s security. “I’m ready to serve my country and proud to be part of this recruitment drive,” Asad shared.

The event continues to inspire youth in the region to embrace opportunities for personal growth, leadership, and a future in the armed forces.
