Gurugram and Faridabad emerge as significant contributors, with 925 and 821 cases, comprising around 16% of total incidents. The increasing crime has always been a matter of serious concern in Haryana, necessitating the police department to come up with a foolproof strategy to tighten the noose around the neck of criminals and ensure women’s safety as well. Despite the tall claims of the department, the scenario continues to remain the same in terms of women’s safety, and the matter remains under constant discussion in the Haryana Assembly. The seriousness of the situation can be gauged from the fact that around one thousand incidents of crime against women are reported every month in Haryana.
Apart from minor crimes, incidents of heinous crimes are also included on a large scale. Assault, molestation, and torture of women have become very common.
According to official figures, more than nine hundred incidents of rape of women have been reported this year, which clearly shows a worsening situation. It is also important to mention that Gurugram and Faridabad districts of Haryana, falling in NCR, do emerge as huge contributors in terms of crime against women in the state.
Widespread cases of crime against women are being reported in Haryana. Official data has revealed that a total of 10,946 incidents of crime against women have been recorded in Haryana in the year 2023. In this context, 995 cases are being reported every month, with an average of 30 to 35 a day. Besides complaints of crimes against women ranging from domestic violence, harassment, sexual exploitation, assault to dowry demand, rape, and gang rape are common these days, requiring the police department to curb the criminals.
The information received has also revealed that the maximum cases of atrocities and crimes against women have been reported in both districts. As many as 925 cases were reported in Gurugram, the highest number in the state, comprising 8.5% of the total cases, followed by Faridabad with 821 cases, respectively, in the 11-month period till November this year. Thus, the situation is more or less similar in the adjoining Faridabad district. In this regard, 1,746 cases have been reported jointly in both the districts, comprising 16% of the total cases reported in Haryana.
It is evident from the cases of crimes against women in both the districts that the police need to make additional arrangements here.
