TDP SLAMS JAGAN GOVT FOR ‘FAILING’ TO CURB CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN

In yet another shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl’s throat was slit by a young student in Visakhapatnam. The boy named Akshil killed the girl Varalakshmi in Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has announced financial assistance of Rs. 10 lakhs to the girl’s family.

But the opposition says there is no safety for women in the state. Telugu Mahila State President Vangalapudi Anitha and scores of TDP activists staged a sit-in in front of the Visakhapatnam Police Commissionerate in protest against the Jagan government for not taking stringent action against the maniac involved in the Varalakshmi killing.

The TDP protesters sat in front of the commissionerate after the police prevented them from entering the office premises to meet the Police Commissioner.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Anitha termed it unfortunate that the Chief Minister was trying to suppress the atrocities against women by giving some cash compensation to the victims’ families.

“The CM cannot wash his hands of these ghastly incidents and he should order strong punishment against the accused. Akshil, the maniac who killed Varalakshmi, should be given deterrent punishment”, Anitha said.

Anitha also wrote a letter to the Vizag Police Commissioner, taking serious objection to how the Varalakshmi killing incident was being ignored.

“No case can be filed under the Disha Act as it was non-existent. It was because of the complacency on the part of the police that the psychos and maniacs were having a free run.” she alleged.

K Stalin asked the government, “Who pressured the AIADMK to settle for 7.5% reservation for the government school students when the committee constituted by the State proposed 10% as a horizontal reservation for the government school students”.
