Soaring spirits: As spring blooms, kite enthusiasts take to skies

As spring arrives, the enthusiasm for kite flying rises among people, but this hobby can pose challenges for others. A recent incident in Mauli Jagra highlighted the issue, where an eagle got entangled in a Chinese manjha, landing on a Peepal tree approximately 70 feet high. To rescue the trapped bird, Balkar Singh Victor, the head of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Club, urgently contacted the fire brigade. After five hours of intense efforts, the eagle was successfully rescued around midnight.

Fire officer GS Multani, present at the scene, mentioned the unrestricted sale of Chinese manjha in Indian markets despite its ban. This poses a significant threat, causing injuries to many individuals. Birds, in particular, face severe harm as they often get injured or even lose their lives due to the sharp string when kites are in the air. Former Zilla Parishad member Harbhajan Singh expressed gratitude to the entire rescue team, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to preserving both bird and human life. He emphasized that the Earth belongs to animals and birds as much as it does to humans.

During the rescue, individuals like Harbhupinder Kumar, Surinder Kumar from Horticulture, Sunil Yadav from Chandigarh Yuva Dal, along with Cheena, Balveer Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Jashan, Jatinder Singh, Kartar Singh, and others played crucial roles in the operation.
