SRINAGAR: Police and security forces increased their presence in Jammu & Kashmir on Monday as a precautionary measure ahead of the Republic Day function. Air surveillance too was conducted in a number of places in the Valley ahead of the big day. Earlier IGP Kashmir range Vijay Kumar told the media that multi-layered security was put in place in Jammu and Kashmir especially in the twin capitals of Srinagar and Jammu as the functions would be held in connection with the Republic Day. On Monday police and security forces were stopping all the vehicles entering into Srinagar city and moving out at different makeshift check posts set up by police and CRPF. CCTV surveillance, sniffer dogs and drones were being used by police in Srinagar city for the vigil. According to the government spokesman, the main Republic Day function would be held at Maulana Azad stadium in Jammu, the winter capital of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, where Lt Governor Manoj Sinha will be the chief guest. Earlier the government in an official order had asked all its employees including all senior and middle-level officials to ensure their attendance at the Republic Day function at their places of posting, otherwise action would be invoked under rules.
