The 11th-century Al-Hakim Mosque will be visited by PM Modi during his two-day trip to Egypt starting on Saturday. On the final day of his two-day itinerary in Cairo, the huge metropolis of Egypt, PM Modi is slated to visit a mosque as the first activity.
The Prime Minister will spend close to 30 minutes visiting the Al-Hakim Mosque, a significant and historic building in Cairo that bears the name of Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, the 16th Fatimid caliph (985–1021).
Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah’s father, Caliph Al-‘Aziz Billah, began construction on the mosque in the year 990, towards the end of the 10th century, and Al-Hakim finished it in the year 1013.
The mosque is located in the heart of Islamic Cairo, on the east side of al-Mu’izz Street, just south of Bab al-Futuh (one of the northern city gates of Fatimid Cairo).
PM Modi during his first Egypt tour will also visit Heliopolis War Grave cemetery to pay tribute to the Indian soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice fighting for Egypt during the First World War.
