Light rain and snow forecasted in Kashmir

With a wet period expected from Monday in Kashmir, the Meteorological Department (MeT) officials noted a modest increase in night time temperatures. However, these temperatures persist below the usual levels.

The MeT has issued forecasts indicating the likelihood of light to moderate rain and snow across Jammu and Kashmir on March 13. This weather system is anticipated to bring thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds along with precipitation.

On March 11, isolated areas may experience light rain and snow, while March 12 is expected to see partly to generally cloudy conditions. Following the anticipated precipitation on March 13, March 14 is forecasted to remain generally cloudy, with the possibility of light rain and snow in isolated areas.

However, from March 15 to 18, the region is expected to experience generally dry weather.
In light of these forecasts, the Meteorological Department has cautioned residents in hilly areas against venturing into avalanche-prone zones and slopes, urging them to heed avalanche warnings and advisories.

Farmers have also been advised to resume agricultural activities in consideration of the predicted weather conditions, which remain subject to change. According to MeT officials, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.2 degrees Celsius, marking an increase from the previous night’s minus 0.2 degrees Celsius. Despite this rise, the temperature remains 1.1 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average.

As Kashmir prepares for fluctuating weather patterns, residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
