The state government has made a submission before the Karnataka High Court that only the newly released ward-wise reservation list can be used to hold elections for the municipal civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
On Friday, the Advocate General made a submission on the state’s behalf, stating that while any objections or deficiencies might be fixed at the subsequent election, it was urgent that new corporators be chosen right away.
Additionally, the AG refuted claims made in numerous petitions that the reservation list was politically driven.
The representative for the Election Commission joined the opposition to the petitions.
September 13 will now be the new date for the hearing. The AG defended the BBMP’s 243 new wards’ delineation procedure. The court was informed that each ward’s average population was kept at 34,750, with a 10 percent error on either side.
The prior status of wards and population has been preserved in the Malleshwaram and Gandhinagar assembly segments. The population has been divided up among the same wards in Chikpet, Rajajinagar, Shanti Nagar, Pulikeshi Nagar, and Hebbal, five assembly segments.
