India’s Covid-19 tally crosses 6-lakh mark

With over 19,000 cases being reported in the last 24 hours, India’s total tally of coronavirus cases has reached 607,344 cases, with the death toll rising to 17,873. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka are the 10 states which account for 90% of total infections in India. 

 More than 10.8 million people around the world have been diagnosed with Covid-19. While more than 6 million have recovered, 519,953 have died so far. The United States continues to be the most affected, with 27,79,953 coronavirus cases and 130,798 deaths. It is followed by Brazil (14,53,369 cases, deaths 60,713), Russia (654,405 cases, 9,536 deaths), and India (607,344 cases, 17,873 deaths).

Maharashtra remains the country’s worst-affected state which recorded more than 6,000 cases in a single day for the first time. 6,330 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total count to 1.86 lakh with 125 people died in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll due to the pandemic in the state to 8,178. In the last 24 hours, 1,554 new cases have emerged and 58 deaths were reported in Mumbai, as the tally touched a total of 80,699 positive cases and 4,689 deaths.

Tamil Nadu reported single day all-time high of 4,343 fresh coronavirus cases; the tally rose to 98,392 cases. In the past 24 hours, 57 Covid-19 patients died, taking the toll to 1,321, while 3,095 Covid-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the state. The number of cured persons has gone up to 56,021. The number of active cases stands at 41,047.

Delhi remained at the third spot in being the worst-affected state in the country due to coronavirus with 2,373 fresh Covid-19 cases; 3,015 patients were discharged and 61 deaths were reported in Delhi in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the national capital is now at 92,175, including 63,007 recovered/discharged/migrated patients which took the total tally to 26,304 active cases and 2,864 deaths. The total number of containment zones stands at 445.

Gujarat, too, recorded its highest one-day increase of 681 coronavirus cases, taking the case count to 33,999.

This is the sixth straight day when more than 600 new coronavirus patients have come to light in the state.In Uttar Pradesh a total of 817 new Covid-19 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of active cases to 6,869 in the state. The death toll has risen to 735 in the state. In West Bengal, 649 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, while 509 were discharged and 16 deaths were reported. The total number of cases in the state is now at 19,819, including 13,037 discharged, 6,083 active cases and 699 deaths.
