India reports second Monkeypox case in Kerala

The Union Health Ministry and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) officials confirmed the second case of Monkeypox in Kerala on Monday. The 31-year-old man reached Kannur from Dubai on July 13.

“One more monkeypox confirmed in Kerala. The 31-year-old man from Kannur is currently undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College. The patient’s health condition is reported to be satisfactory,” said Kerala Health Minister.

The Union Health Ministry has already deployed the multidisciplinary central team, and those who came into close contact with him have been under surveillance.

The first Monkeypox case was reported on July 14 by a UAE traveller from Kerala. Meanwhile, the health secretary has asked all the states and union territories to take critical actions.

Moreover, the Union Health Ministry released new guidelines for managing the Monkeypox disease on Friday. The officials said to ANI, “No need to panic as the centre has given fresh directions to all the states and Union Territories regarding Monkeypox. It spreads through close contact with lesions, body fluids, prolonged contacts with Respiratory Droplets and contaminated materials such as bedding.”

However, the disease is endemic to the west and central African countries such as Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
