Freedom fighter loses leg amid medical negligence

The freedom fighters of Rajasthan, who contributed to the fight for independence, are facing their own battles today. Ramu Ji Saini, the same freedom fighter who fought for independence a month ago, is now fighting his own battle.

Ramu Ji has been ill for the past month. Due to serious conditions, he had to lose his leg. However, despite all this, the entire country was celebrating Republic Day, singing praises for the martyrs and soldiers. But not a single person paid attention. There is no special law or regulation through which the society’s soldiers can be secured in the state.

A year ago, in the fight for independence, 96-year-old Ramu Ji was shot in the leg. After this, in recent days, he started experiencing pain in his inverted leg. Due to the pain, he was examined at the Metro Mass Hospital in Mansarovar. The examination revealed that the artery in his leg was blocked. As a result, he had to undergo surgery.

After the examination, Ramu Ji was admitted to the Metro Mass Hospital on January 9th. Ramu Ji’s diabetes treatment was already underway at Metro Mass. Therefore, Ramu Ji got himself examined and took the advice of Dr. Raghav Johri at the hospital.

After receiving assurances, the lower part of the leg deteriorated immediately after the injections. When relief was not found, he was referred to Dhanvantari Hospital in Mansarovar. However, after treatment by Dr. G.S. Kalra, a specialist in Jaipur, negligence occurred, and Ramu Ji had to lose his entire leg.

The condition worsened due to negligence
Rajendra Prasad Saini, the chief of Dhanvantari Hospital, decided the first surgery of Ramu Ji during his wisdom and supervision on January 14th. The surgery was performed by Dr. G.S. Kalra, a retired doctor from Sawai Man Singh Hospital. Ramu Ji’s relatives say that Dr Kalra is a renowned plastic surgeon in Jaipur, but he did not consult any orthopaedic doctor.
Relatives say that they were informed in a hurry that if the operation was not done, the blood shocks could have a bad effect on the heart. Therefore, without thinking, we trusted and filled out the form. But after the first operation, no one in the hospital took this case seriously. Even after the pleas of Ramu Ji’s relatives in the hospital, no improvement was seen.

Two operations made things worse
Ramu Ji has known Dr. Kalra for the past 30 years. Therefore, he accepted the advice to have surgery twice with confidence. The examination was done on January 20th after the operation at the hospital. After this, surgery was done again on January 21st.
It was assured that after the second bypass operation, only the lower part of the leg would have to be separated. However, the treatment of the upper part of the leg was also done. Even after two operations, the treatment was not successful. After that, Ramu Ji had to be admitted to Fortis Hospital, where his left leg had to be separated.

Administration and government have not taken any action
Ramu Ji changed three hospitals in just one month. Discounts were available for treatment under Chiranjivi in the previous hospitals. But no discount has been received at Fortis yet.
Freedom fighter Ramu Ji Saini told The Daily Guardian in a special interview that he is disheartened by the negligence of the doctors. He said, “What’s my fault? I got my treatment at Dhanvantari because I had faith in 30-year-old acquaintances. But still, I hope that the government and my well-wishers will come to take my feedback. I think that I am only included in social programs on national days. Besides that, neither the government, administration, nor society takes my feedback.”
