Eleven years later, Saif Ali Khan assault case finally heads to trial

The trial in the case of actor Saif Ali Khan and two others, who were allegedly involved in assaulting a South African businessman and his father-in-law at a Mumbai hotel, is set to commence next month after an eleven-year span.

The additional chief metropolitan magistrate at the Esplanade court recently read out the charges against Khan, Shakeel Ladak, and Bilal Amrohi on April 24. Furthermore, the court has summoned witnesses to provide their testimonies, indicating that the trial is expected to initiate on June 15, which is the next scheduled hearing date.

The accused individuals were taken into custody subsequent to a complaint lodged by businessman Iqbal Mir Sharma, following an altercation at the Wasabi restaurant within the Taj Hotel on February 22, 2012.

Actor Saif Ali Khan, accompanied by his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan, her sister Karisma Kapoor, and others, allegedly assaulted a businessman and his father-in-law at a Mumbai hotel. The incident involved an argument over noise disturbance. Saif Ali Khan is accused of threatening and punching the businessman, fracturing his nose, has been charged under IPC Sections 325 and 34 for causing grievous hurt with common intention.
