Hyderabad police on Sunday seized Rs 1 crore cash from a relative of M. Raghunandan Rao, the BJP candidate in the Dubbak Assembly bypolls In Telangana.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said the money was being taken to Dubbaka for distribution among voters ahead of the November 3 elections.

The cash was seized from Raghunandan Rao’s brother-in-law Surabhi Srinivas Rao’s car near Begumpet flyover.

Police arrested Surabhi Srinivas Rao, brother in law of M Raghunandan Rao.

The police said that the cash was seized near Begumpet flyover while it was being transported for distribution to the voters. They also arrested the driver, T. Ravi Kumar (33), for illegally transporting the money.

According to the police, the accused Surabhi Srinivas Rao is a native of Siddipet town but lives in Hyderabad. For the past 10 years, he has been running the firm A to Z Solutions Limited located in the limits of Patancheru.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development and TRS working president KT Ramarao wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioner of India to take necessary action against miscreants trying to create law and order issues by inciting violence in the state. He alleged that the BJP is trying to disrupt the law and order situation ahead of the Dubbaka assembly by-election.

“We received reliable information from valid sources that the Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to incite violence and create law and order issues in the Telangana state because of the upcoming Dubbaka Assembly Constituency By-election,” said KT Ramarao in his letter.

The BJP slammed the TRS for allegedly harassing Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay. “If the police had any grounds for his arrest, they could have done it without having to use brute force. The videos in the mainstream and social media clearly show unwarranted and unacceptable excessive force being used by police,” said BJP in the statement.
