Cyber scammers dupe man of Rs 3L with fake WFH job offer

Apoorva Goswami, a resident of Sector 57, found himself ensnared in a web of deceit when cyber fraudsters lured him with the promise of a lucrative work-from-home opportunity. It all began innocuously enough on December 17, when he received a message from a certain Namrata Pandey via WhatsApp. Little did Goswami know, this seemingly harmless interaction would spiral into a financial nightmare.

Namrata Pandey, the alleged perpetrator, offered Goswami a tantalizing proposition: a job involving the simple task of ‘liking’ YouTube videos. Tempted by the prospect of easy money, Goswami eagerly accepted the offer. Initially, everything seemed to be going according to plan. Goswami received his first paycheck of Rs 3,000, reinforcing his belief in the legitimacy of the endeavor. However, the situation took a sinister turn when Goswami was coerced into making monetary deposits into various bank accounts. The fraudsters cunningly convinced him that these transactions were necessary to unlock higher-paying assignments. In total, Goswami ended up transferring a staggering sum of Rs 3.2 lakh, hoping to secure his financial future.

Unfortunately, the promise of wealth turned out to be nothing more than a cruel facade. As Goswami continued to comply with the demands for more money, reality began to dawn upon him. It became increasingly apparent that he was being exploited for the financial gain of others.

Realizing the gravity of his predicament, Goswami took the courageous step of reporting the incident to the authorities. The police promptly launched an investigation into the matter, aiming to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent further exploitation of unsuspecting individuals.

This unfortunate ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in the digital realm. As society becomes increasingly interconnected through technology, it is imperative for individuals to exercise caution and vigilance, lest they fall victim to the machinations of cybercriminals.
