Covid number crosses 8-lakh mark in India, one lakh cases added in 3 days

With the highest single-day spike of 26,506 Covid-19 cases, India’s total tally of coronavirus infections has crossed the 8-lakh mark on Friday. The numbers went from 7 lakh to 8 lakh in the last three days only.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has announced that it would be conducting another pan-India surveillance to understand the spread of the Coronavirus in the country. Maharashtra remains country’s worst hit state with highest cases (2,30,599), followed by Tamil Nadu (1,30,261) and Delhi (1,07,051).Eight states, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Karnataka and Telangana have around 90 percent of the active Covid-19 cases in the country and 80 percent of the active cases have been reported from 49 districts in the country.  

Maharashtra reported a jump in coronavirus cases with 7,862 new infections and 226 deaths, taking the tally to 2,38,461 and death toll rising to 9,893. This is the highest-ever single day jump of Covid-19 cases in the state. Meanwhile, 5366 patients got discharged in the last twenty-four hours. So far 1,32,625 Covid-19 patients have been discharged here till date. The recovery rate of the state has improved to 55.62%. Tamil Nadu reported a total of 3,680 new positive cases and 64 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases to 1,30,261 including 46,105 active, 82,324 discharged and 1,829 deaths.

 Delhi remained the third worst hit state in the country.2089 positive cases were reported in Delhi in the last twenty-four hours and 2468 patients recovered/ discharged and 42 deaths were also reported. The total number of positive cases in the national capital has increased to 1,09,140 including 84,694 recovered/ discharged/migrated and 3,300 deaths.

 Meanwhile in Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has been home quarantined and his office has been sealed after some of his staff tested positive for Coronavirus. His office has been sealed for five days. As many as 2,313 new Coronavirus cases and 57 deaths were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 33,418 and the death toll to 543.

While West Bengal saw a total surge of 1,198 new COVID-19 positive cases, 26 deaths and 522 discharged in West Bengal in the last 24 hours. The total tally stands at 27,109 including 880 deaths and 17,348 discharged. Gujarat reported 875 new positive cases of Covid-19 and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours. State tally now at to 40,155 including 28,183 cured/discharged and 2,024 deaths. India’s total tally now stands at 8,01,286.
