As party members left for Kolkata to participate in Nabanna Abhiyan on Tuesday, a fight broke out between BJP members and police at the Raniganj train station.
As a preventative measure, the police detained numerous workers in Raniganj.
Further, as police prohibited BJP members from travelling to Kolkata to take part in the Nabanna Chalo march, a fight broke out between the two groups inside the Bolpur train station. Many employees were detained.
“With hundreds of BJP workers heading towards Kolkata to join the BJP’s Nabanna march via trains, police barricaded paths to railway stations. Twenty of our workers were stopped by police near Durgapur railway station. I reached here using other paths,” said BJP leader Abhijit Dutta.
In the meantime, the police deployed a lot of officers to thwart the BJP’s Nabanna Abhiyan. To stop the parade, Kolkata’s borders have been blocked off and are being guarded.
There are barriers blocking a number of the city’s roads. The West Bengal Police have created a fortress in a 5-kilometer radius around Nabanna to stop the procession.
BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul on Monday said, “The preparations for Nabanna Chalo Abhiyan have been done. It is not just the BJP’s protest, but the protest of all the people of Bengal. Mamata Banerjee has to answer why her government has cheated the people of Bengal.”
