5 killed in a fire on boat, suspected to be smuggling sand

A fire broke out in the boat at Diyara, Rampur Ghat in Patna. Five labourers are said to be killed in the fire.

Bihar Police cited the reason behind the fire, saying,””It is being said there was a cylinder explosion, but that’s not the case. They were cooking near a few diesel canisters, so a fire broke out. They are yet to be indetified. “

According to the reports, the explosion occurred in the middle of the lake while the food was being cooked and illicit sand was being transported from one end to the other by boat.

The fire fighting personnels along with the Block development officer of Maner and  the Politics station officer of Maner reached the spot after receiving the information about the blast.  

Vikash Kumar, the officer in charge of the fire fighting office in Bihta, Patna, added that there were 20 labourers on the boat and  the sand was being unloaded at the location.

The five deceased have not been identified yet. Further details are awaited.
