The Covid-19 virus has once again gained a dangerous pace in Punjab. On Wednesday, there was a stir among the health department officials when 59 students were found infected at Rajiv Gandhi National Law University located in Sidhuwal village of Patiala.
Also, on Thursday morning 63 more students tested positive for the virus. Sources say that some students are found positive with Omicron variant BA.2. Although the department has taken samples of 8 students for genome sequencing.
After this, taking precautionary measures, the Health Department completely sealed the university on Wednesday. Now no one will be able to enter the university from the outside nor can anyone go out. Dr. Raju Dhir, Civil Surgeon, Patiala of the Health Department said that on Wednesday, 500 more samples have been taken by the team of the department for testing. These include students as well as faculty members.
Dr. Dhir said that among the 61 students of Law University who were found infected, no one needed to be admitted to the hospital. All the infected have complaints of mild fever, cough, and cold. Therefore, all these students are being isolated and given treatment in the university itself. He told that most of the infected have got the vaccination done already. This is the reason why more dangerous symptoms of the virus are not being seen in them. Regarding the outbreak of Covid-19 in Law University, Dr. Dhir said that on April 26, some students had returned to their hostels from outside.
Some of them were corona infected, but they did not pay attention to the symptoms and even party after coming. Due to which the corona spread. But now the corona does not spread much, it is being closely monitored.
