Design is an integral part of Oppo smartphones. Oppo is known to make mid-segment attractive looking phones. The F17 Pro, a slim lightweight device with AMOLED display, has been launched in India at Rs 22,990. Closer to the Diwali season Oppo has introduced the F17 Pro Diwali Edition. This new edition comes with a new Oppo F17 Pro-Matte Gold model and the box also includes an Oppo 10,000 mAh power bank (18W) and a Diwali exclusive back case cover. Keeping in mind the spirit of the festival the F17 Pro Diwali Edition is bright and jazzy. The colour blend makes it stand out for sure.

The Diwali Edition is similar on specs like the original model. The new model is slightly more expensive due to the addition of the bundled power bank and case cover. Oppo F17 Pro Diwali Edition is priced in India at Rs 23,990.

Just like the original model the smartphone touts a sleek and lightweight profile, AMOLED display, 48MP quad-camera setup and dual front cameras.

SPECIFICATIONS

The Oppo F17 Pro runs on Android 10 with ColorOS 7.2 on top and features a 6.43-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display. The phone runs on an Octa-core MediaTek Helio P95 SoC, coupled with 8GB of RAM.

The phone has a quad rear camera setup. Oppo F17 Pro has a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP secondary camera, and two 2MP monochrome cameras.

For selfies and video chat, it offers the dual-camera setup at the front, with a 16MP primary camera and a 2MP depth camera.

VERDICT

The F17 Pro Diwali Edition is not any different from the original model. It is conceptualised keeping the festive season in mind, so the new colour scheme is the real selling point of this device. The power bank is an add on as well. Being the Diwali Edition, it can be a good pick for gifting. Just like the original model the built quality is on point, it has a smooth and responsive software and supports fast charging. Performance-wise you might get a little disappointed. This edition wins for me if you want to gift this to someone.

INSTAGRAM BRINGS ‘REMIX’ FEATURE TO ALL VIDEOS

Published

on

WASHINGTON: The Meta-owned application Instagram is expanding the ‘Remix’ feature to all public videos.

As per Mashable, the latest update will allow users to use ‘Remix’ with regular Instagram videos and it will have a longer time limit. The photo-sharing platform had first introduced Remix last year for its short-video format called Reels, a feature similar to TikTok Duets in which a user can record Reels alongside another user.

This essentially lets the same user or another user “remix” their work with a reel that already exists. The finished output is shown in a split perspective, which allows the spectator to watch the two videos patched together. Users will now be able to utilize ‘Remix’ on ordinary Instagram videos, with a larger length restriction.

The extension made sense as Remix has been well-received by Instagram users. It sought to provide producers with greater options for “reinventing their work” and collaborating with other people. Creators can still have access to Reels’ range of creative tools, including Collabs, Voiceover, Effects, and Audio Tools while remixing a non-Reels video.

After the update goes live, users may access the new feature by tapping the three-dot menu in the top corner of any public Instagram video. You may then select “Remix this video” and record your response or upload a video from your phone’s camera roll. Creators can remix the entire or a portion of another’s video and download it as part of the remix. The remixed video will appear on feed.

MOTOROLA’S MOTO EDGE 30 PRO RENDERS SHOW UNDER DISPLAY FINGERPRINT SCANNER

Published

on

WASHINGTON: The Moto Edge X30 had arrived as the first smartphone in the world with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, however, its global launch has still been awaited.

Now, GSM Arena reports that according to multiple reports, the smartphone will be named Edge 30 Pro in global markets. The phone’s renders just leaked and while it looks largely similar, a further inspection reveals a few small changes, the fingerprint scanner is has moved under the display, for one. The logo on the back has moved as well.

Moto Edge 30 Pro’s renders also showcase a punch-hole selfie camera, meaning the Moto X30 Special Edition with the shooter under the screen might remain exclusive to the local market.

Since specs are expected to remain the same, an easy way to differentiate the local and global units is the Moto logo, the one for overseas is in the bottom left corner.

The latest Qualcomm flagship chipset is just one of the few impressive specs, the Moto Edge X30/Edge 30 Pro also comes with a 6.7” OLED of 144Hz refresh rate, two 50MP main cameras, and a 60MP selfie snapper.

As per GSM Arena, the 5,000 mAh battery supports 68W fast charging, which would be a massive increase from the 30W rates in the predecessor Edge 20 Pro.

WHATSAPP PLANNING TO RELEASE TWO-STEP VERIFICATION FOR DESKTOP, WEB VERSIONS

Published

on

WASHINGTON: Popular messaging application WhatsApp might be developing the ability to add two-step verification to its desktop app and web version. Two-step verification is a crucial security feature that gives extra protection to user accounts. According to Mashable, it will also be available on WhatsApp Web and Desktop, making it more difficult for cybercriminals to steal a user’s profile.

Activating WhatsApp’s two-step verification is now only feasible through mobile apps on iOS and Android, but it will soon be allowed to enable this extra security technique in the browser and desktop versions of the program. Your WhatsApp account will be linked to a 6-digit number and an email address using this approach. Its activation ensures that no one else can access your WhatsApp; only you will have access, and configuring it is highly advised.

It can also be adjusted through WhatsApp Web and Desktop, according to WABetaInfo, however, this is not yet available to all users. The processes and alternatives are the same; you’ll be able to enter a code and an email address, which you’ll need to save in a secure location, or just remember if you ever need to recover your account due to the loss of your WhatsApp PIN. You may modify both the code and the email later, and you can even eliminate two-step verification, but this is not advised.

VIVO V23 PRO, A SMARTPHONE FOR SELFIES

Richa Kapoor

Published

on

Vivo, since the very beginning has been a brand which has been associated with camera centric smartphones. The brand over the years has been a market disruptor in a lot of sectors but it’s association with a good lens has always been most highlighted.

2022 and Vivo brings to market its first offering. V23 & V23 Pro. The ethos of V series continues with V23 Pro. The device comes with a new-and-improved 50MP dual-selfie camera setup. So it is yet again a selfie device or much more let’s find out?

Design: The highlight of the devices design is the colour-changing Fluorite AG glass back but for now it is only available in Sunshine Gold. The device is also available in Stardust Black which has been my review unit.

I am a fan of matt finish, and this soft back matte finish has been a head turner for me. The device is sleek and well weighted. It is so light and can be one of the slimmest devices in the market.

You have the triple camera setup at the back. Perfectly styled with no lens popping out. Vivo logo well set and well merged with the back at the bottom.

The V23 Pro features a glass back, while the sides are made of plastic. There’s a bottom-firing speaker, a Type-C charging port, a dual-SIM slot, volume rockers and a power button on the bottom and the sides of the smartphone.

The front of the screen has a notch with the dual – selfie camera set up.

Display: The Vivo V23 comes with a 3D curved screen on the front. It’s a 6.56-inch AMOLED display that offers a 90Hz refresh rate. We would have enjoyed a 120Hz refresh rate on this curved screen for sure.

Even with 90Hz the screen is bright and is great outdoors. The AMOLED screen makes the viewing experience even better. You enjoy watching content and even with curved screen you don’t have accidental touches.

Performance & Software: Vivo V23 Pro is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1200 processor. It’s a value-for-money SoC and one that doesn’t fail to impress. The processor is well tested and used and doesn’t fail to impress. Multi- tasking and playing game were seamless on the device. I didn’t feel a lag at all on the device. While taking pictures, zoom calls or even while watching content.

Vivo V23 Pro runs Vivo’s own custom skin that is known as FunTouch 12. This one is based on Android 12. The interface is easy and quite clean.

Camera: The rear features a triple-camera array with a 108MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP macro sensor. The notch on the front houses the 50MP main selfie shooter accompanied by the 8MP lens that helps with wide-angle shots.

As mentioned above this device is for selfie lovers. They have two lens, and the output is much better than you would have expected. Everyone who is looking for that perfect selfie with some new beautification features would be very happy with the result.

Vivo V23 Pro gets dual- flash array just above the lens making the low light selfies also look great. It will be a great pick for social media influencers.

Looking at the main lens the result was just ok. You would have wanted some path breaking results which might not be the case. The ultra-wide and even the Night mode are not as great as you would have wished for. The color quality dips. The device has mostly concentered on the front camera.

Battery: Vivo V23 Pro get a 4,300mAh battery with a heavy day usage it might last you just till the night. The device comes with a 44W charger. It charged the phone from 0-100 percent in under an hour.

Verdict: V23 Pro starts at Rs 38,990 for the 8GM RAM variant & the 12 GB variant is for out Rs 43,990.

The device is sleek, good looking easy to hold, and the display is comfortable. It comes with a great front camera and gives you social media friendly pictures.

What the device lacks is a 120Hz refresh rate, not the best-in-class rear camera and an average battery.

So, if you are someone who has been a fan of the Vivo brands selfie camera you would love this device. For someone who is looking for the sleek, good – looking average performance device with and exceptional front camera this can be your pick.

on

In times of high Petrol prices many buyers in the entry space are switching to CNG vehicles. This has been evident of success of cars from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai which come with CNG models. Now Tata Motors has decided to join the party and has introduced the CNG versions of the Tiago and Tigor in the market. According to the company these are the most powerful CNG cars in the segment and also come with what features like direct start in CNG, single advance ECU and auto switchover between fuels.

Commenting on the launch, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said, “The demand for both economical personal mobility as well as greener, emission friendly mobility is rapidly rising. With this foray in the fast-growing segment of CNG powered vehicles, we are offering more choice to our discerning customers. Developed on the 4-pillars of Design, Performance, Safety and Technology, the feature rich iCNG technology will further expand the appeal of our popular ‘New Forever’ range of cars and SUVs to open new vistas for growth.”

LOOKS

In terms of looks both the Tiago and Tigor CNG get the same design as the Petrol models apart from the iCNG badge that finds a place on the boot lid. While the Tiago iCNG comes with features like the projector headlamps, LED DRLs, chrome embellishments on the exteriors and premium black and beige dual tone interiors; the Tigor iCNG too comes equipped with features such as rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and dual tone roof. The company has also introduced a new midnight plum body colour on the Tiago and a magnetic red option on the Tigor.

INTERIORS

Unlike some of their competitors both the cars come with multiple variants to let the buyer choose the number of features he wants. To differentiate from the Petrol siblings the cabin gets new seat fabric and new dual tone black and beige interiors. You also get a digital instrument cluster which now has 2 fuel gauges, one each for Petrol and CNG. The top variant gets features like 7.0-inch touch screen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, 8-speaker Harman sound system, electrically adjustable side view mirrors and automatic climate control. On the lower variants features like black & grey interiors, 4 power windows, rear parking sensors and cooled glovebox are offered. The presence of a CNG tank in the boot though has really cut down on luggage space, especially on the Tiago which gets just 80 litres compared to 242 litres on Petrol Tiago.

SAFETY

Tata says both the cars use high strength steel with the inclusion of standard safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability control. Additionally, you also get features like speed alert, seatbelt reminder, speed sensing door locks, followmehome lights, rear view camera and rear defogger.

ENGINE

The new Tiago iCNG and Tigor iCNG are powered by the Revotron 1.2L BS6 engine which produces maximum power of 73PS – the highest for any CNG car in this segment. But this is also a tad lower than what this engine makes on the Petrol models. According to Tata, the iCNG cars come with a seamless shifting of fuel modes from Petrol to CNG and vice versa. The cars are only being offered with a 5-speed manual transmission unlike the Petrol models which also get an AMT option. The claimed fuel efficiency figures are 26.49 km/kg and Tata says the cars can be started directly in CNG mode which isn’t the case with their rivals.

PRICES

The 4 variants of the Tata Tiago CNG are priced between Rs. 6.09 lakh and Rs. 7.52 lakh (ex-showroom). The top XZ+ is also available in a dual tone option for which you need to shell out Rs. 12,000 extra. The 2 variants of Tigor CNG are priced at Rs. 7.69 lakh and Rs. 8.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The XZ+ dual tone is priced at Rs. 8.41 lakh. Both these cars have come with a warranty of 2 years or 75,000 kms, whichever is earlier, as a standard option for all customers.

MICROSOFT TO ACQUIRE ‘CALL OF DUTY’ MAKER, ACTIVISION BLIZZARD, FOR $68.7 BILLION

Published

on

Microsoft has announced a deal to acquire game studio Activision Blizzard for USD 68.7 billion. If it goes through, it would be Microsoft’s biggest-ever acquisition—and by far the biggest deal ever in the video game biz.

Activision Blizzard’s lineup of games includes ‘Call of Duty’, ‘Candy Crush’, ‘Warcraft’, ‘Diablo’, ‘Overwatch’, and ‘Hearthstone’. According to The Verge, the deal is Microsoft’s biggest push into gaming, and the company says it will be the “third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony” once the deal closes.

Microsoft plans to add many of Activision’s games to Xbox Game Pass once the deal closes. “Upon close, we will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as we can within Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from Activision Blizzard’s incredible catalogue,” said Microsoft’s CEO of gaming Phil Spencer.

Xbox Game Pass now has 25 million subscribers, as Microsoft continues to acquire studios to boost the subscription service.

As per The Verge, Microsoft’s deal comes after months of sexual harassment claims against Activision Blizzard. Last July, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) sued Activision Blizzard for promoting a culture of “constant sexual harassment.” More employees have come forward with more allegations of sexual misconduct ever since, and the company reached an US$ 18 million settlement with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in September. That settlement is being appealed, and reports indicate that nearly 40 Activision Blizzard employees have reportedly “exited” the company since last July.

Microsoft doesn’t detail exactly how it will approach solving these issues, and the company says Bobby Kotick will continue to serve as CEO of Activision Blizzard for now. Phil Spencer, formerly head of gaming at Microsoft, is now CEO of Microsoft Gaming and the company says the Activision Blizzard business will report directly to Spencer.

“As a company, Microsoft is committed to our journey for inclusion in every aspect of gaming, among both employees and players,” said Microsoft’s CEO of gaming Phil Spencer.

“We deeply value individual studio cultures. We also believe that creative success and autonomy go hand-in-hand with treating every person with dignity and respect. We hold all teams, and all leaders, to this commitment. We’re looking forward to extending our culture of proactive inclusion to the great teams across Activision Blizzard,” added Spencer.

Microsoft’s huge Activision Blizzard deal comes nearly a year after the company acquired Bethesda (ZeniMax Media) for US$ 7.5 billion. At the time, that acquisition bolstered the company’s first-party Xbox game studios to a total of 23 and was seen as a huge boost for Xbox Game Pass.
