Don’t let outside forces dictate our democratic choices

What does CJP protest announcement on 10 October really represent? Who are Abhijeet Dipke, Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka? Do they believe in our democratic and electoral processes? For how long will we allow foreign forces to dictate how our democracy and government will run?

Who are the western media like BBC and New York Times to dictate concepts of freedom of speech and expression when they silenced us for 200 years under the guise of white man’s burden? How many Indians were lynched, killed and hanged by foreigners for asking for their rights?

Perhaps, BBC and New York Times are not aware of our history, or are embarrassed by what they know about the horrors of colonialism that stand in total contrast to the preaching on freedom they engage in from time to time. Whether you agree or disagree with the BJP, it’s for the country to decide, not outside forces and the threat of foreign interference should unite Indians more than ever against this conspiracy.

We can settle our matters on our own. Dipke, Ranka and Das are compromised and don’t represent us or our voices. Their demands are not our demands and their views don’t represent the opinion of majority of Indians. Media space has also become complicated where people who have worked their entire lives on ground are abused and threatened. It’s high time media professionals stand with one another as booing and abusing media for doing their job cannot be accepted.

Today, it’s one media entity, tomorrow it might be you or me. This kind of polarisation that if you don’t agree with the protesters then you are by default with the government is extreme and uncalled for. Like police personnel, media has been abused to such an extent that it’s time to call it out and fight for our dignity. The selective name calling of media houses needs to stop. Media is asking questions and it can question protesters also.

Those who are gloating at the thought of destroying the government we elected be warned that this will unite Indians on the side of government more than ever. Whenever Indians have faced outsiders, they have united like never before.
