Uttarakhand Chief Minister on Thursday said only one-fourth of the homes in Joshimath have cracks.

Meanwhile, CM Dhami announced the compensation of Rs 1.5 lakhs to the families of Joshimath that will be given by Thursday evening. The other towns are also being checked by the state government besides Joshimath.

“We are studying other cities in the area and how much weight they can take. Accordingly, we will take steps,” CM Dhami said.

Moreover, Joshimath is a popular temple town that is a gateway to popular pilgrimage sites like Badrinath. Due to unplanned infrastructure building the sinking town is facing a crisis with massive cracks appearing in buildings and roads.

Many people’s houses have been fled and the town which consists of 20,000 people in that around 600 people houses and hotels are sinking.

Thousands of people have been evacuated and in the next few days, the state government will demolish the most damaged buildings.

However, in Joshimath, there is a major Indian army base and a strategic road to the disputed border with China.

Furthermore, in recent years Joshimath has seen many disasters like earthquakes and around 200 people have been killed in 2021 in flash floods in Joshimath.
