Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed Odisha’s readiness for Cyclone Dana in a discussion with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, assuring full central support. The cyclone is expected to make landfall late Thursday night.

Odisha has made extensive preparations, setting up over 5,200 cyclone shelters and relocating more than 3.6 lakh people, including 3,654 pregnant women to hospitals. The state has deployed 19 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, 51 Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams, and 220 Fire Services units to handle the situation.

“Odisha’s preparations are commendable,” said Prime Minister Modi. The central government has also provided additional NDRF teams as requested.

Cyclone Dana is predicted to hit the coast between Bhitarkanika park and Dhamra port on October 25, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Both Odisha and West Bengal have issued heavy rainfall warnings and are evacuating nearly one million coastal residents.
