The National Service Scheme (NSS) organized a communal meal program at Sector-1 College with the aim of promoting unity and camaraderie among NSS volunteers. Dr Arvind Dwivedi, the District NSS Coordinator, was the chief guest at the event.
Addressing the volunteers, Dr Dwivedi emphasized the importance of unity and working together for the betterment of society. He stressed that every Indian is a child of Mother India, and it is our responsibility to help and support each other. Creating a harmonious society without discrimination is the key to a strong and united nation. He also mentioned that NSS plays a vital role in building a caste-free and harmonious society.
Principal Babita Verma stated that the right to equality is the foremost right in the Constitution of India. It not only ensures equality among all citizens but also provides a strong foundation for fostering unity and brotherhood among the people. She expressed that although we have no control over our birth, we can achieve great heights in society through our actions and deeds.
As a special guest, Associate Professor Harpreet Kaur Baveja from the English Department spoke about the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the significance of concepts like “Kirat Karo” (earn an honest living), “Naam Japo” (remember the divine), and “Vand Chhako” (share with others). These principles form a powerful mantra for creating a harmonious society, and it is essential for the current generation to understand and follow them.
The NSS unit at the college, led by Dr. Anil Kumar Pandey, organized a large-scale cleanliness drive as a part of the event. Following the cleanliness drive, students brought food from their homes and enjoyed a community meal.
The program was well-managed by about 175 volunteers from the NSS unit. The event’s success was attributed to the efforts of Vinay Kumar, Deepak Chopra, Yash Lisan, Sabir, Shivang Kushwaha, Sneha, Jyoti Malik, Shweta Maurya, Ritika Sharma, and Shreyasi Chattpathi. Faculty members from various departments, including Associate Professor Jitendra Arya from the Sanskrit Department, Associate Professor Rohitash Godara from the Geography Department, Associate Professor Dr. Chitra Tanwar from the Journalism Department, and Shreyasi Chattpathi, were also present.
The volunteers were honoured with NSS caps as they marked their involvement with the NSS. It was the first time many of them wore the NSS cap, signifying their recognition as dedicated volunteers in the service of society.
