North Carolina based family were shot on Tuesday night by an angry neighbor who fired at them after a basketball rolled into his yard.

As per a report by New York Post, 6-year-old Kinsley White was wounded along with her mother Ashley Hilderbrand and father William White following a gunman opened fire at around 8 pm in Gaston County after he became enraged about the bouncing ball.

White suffered serious injuries while attempting to protect his daughter.

Neighbours told the station that a group of kids were playing basketball when the ball landed in the yard of the alleged gunman.

According to reports, suspect shooter Robert Louis Singletary became enraged and ran down the street while firing at a neighbor.

Then he returned and started shooting at the family, including the young daughter, who needed stitches on her face from bullet fragments, according to WSOC-TV.

Her father was also hit and is still in the hospital on Wednesday, according to police.

He allegedly attempted to draw gunfire toward himself in order to protect his children before being shot in the back.
