NO ONE ARRESTED FOR 2020 VIOLENCE AT JNU: GOVERNMENT IN LOK SABHA

Even after a year and a half, no arrest has been made in the case of masked people entering the JNU campus and causing violence. The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha about this.

In January 2020, masked people entered the JNU campus in Delhi and caused violence in which several students were injured.

On Tuesday, Lok Sabha MP Dayanidhi Maran had asked the Union Home Ministry a question related to the JNU incident. Maran had asked in his question about the steps taken to investigate the violence on the JNU campus in January 2020.

Also, the question was asked whether anyone has been arrested in this case so far? These questions were answered by Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai.

Rai in his reply said, “Delhi Police has informed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Crime Branch has been formed to investigate three cases registered at Police Station Vasant Kunj in connection with the violence on JNU campus in January 2020.”

The investigation carried out includes the examination of witnesses, collection and analysis of footage and investigation of identified suspects. However, no arrest has been made so far.

The MoS for Home said that as per the information given by Delhi Police, no arrest has been made in this case.

The case was that in January 2020, around 50 masked women and men armed with rods and hammers entered the JNU campus and committed violence. These people attacked students, besides ransacking hostels and other campuses for hours.

Several students, including JNU Students› Union president Aishe Ghosh, suffered injuries in the attack.
