All the candidates have entered the battle in the assembly elections. Meanwhile, there are many big leaders whose election results are going to be very interesting. One such seat is that of Bansur, where strong Congress candidate Shakuntala Rawat has been making her name for the last two years. At present, there are two big faces in front of Industries and Devasthan Minister Shakuntala Rawat on the Bansur Assembly seat. Devi Singh Shekhawat, who stood second in the 2018 assembly elections, is fighting from BJP this time. Devi Singh was one of the independent candidates in the last elections. He contested the elections as an independent candidate after being denied the BJP ticket. That is why this time BJP has given him a ticket from Bansur without any second thought. Also, Rawat’s other rival is Rohitash Sharma of the Azad Samaj Party. Due to this, the contest in Bansur has now become triangular. The Daily Guardian conducted an exclusive with Minister Shakuntala Rawat about the upcoming elections. Excerpts:
Q: On what basis are votes being sought for contesting elections from Bansur for the 4th time? Have any new promises or strategies been made?
A: I am not asking for votes on any basis. Because the public knows very well the work I have done in the last few years. There were no street lights and municipality in Bansur, now every street has been paved. Government colleges, women’s and men’s toilets have been constructed. In future, developmental works like the stadium, police station, school, roads, trauma centre, tehsil, and girls’ hostel will be finished.
Q: Congress has given you a ticket from Bansur four times, and you have won from this seat twice. So how do you currently see your rivals in the election field?
A: Elections are called elections only when candidates from other parties are strong enough to contest the elections. Because anyway, the candidates of all other parties are pale as compared to Congress. Whatever the result, Congress will win with a full majority, and this time the five-year government change trend will also end.
Q: Congress has not given much thought to giving you a ticket from Bansur, what could have been the main reason for this?
A: Congress always works in the interest of the people. We have been working in the organisation for such a long time. The high command also knows what will be good for the party.
Q: How effective will the visits of BJP’s star campaigners prove?
A: All these meetings and rallies will not have any significant impact, because the public will choose the government only after thinking. BJP had nothing to say in these big campaigns. They do not promise anything, nor do they have any work, but mislead the public. When women’s reservation was given in Panchayat Raj, Congress gave it. Congress has given the right to vote to 18-year-old youth and the NREGA scheme. Therefore, without any hesitation, the results will be in favour of Congress.
