Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Roads, Transport, and Highways, approved seven projects totaling Rs. 10,222 crores for Tripura on Friday.

The declaration was made in Guwahati during a review meeting of the northeastern states about the building of national highways.

According to a press statement from the ministry, Gadkari was reviewing highway projects of different northeastern states, including Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura at Guwahati.

“These projects will strengthen connectivity between Tripura and other northeastern states including neighbouring Bangladesh. It will also give rise to tourism and employment in the state,” Gadkari said.

Manik Saha, the chief minister of Tripura, General (ret.) V K Singh, the chief conservator of forests, the principal secretary of revenue, the secretary of public works, as well as higher officials from the Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways and the National Highway Infrastructures Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) were present at the meeting.

The state administration was also given a directive from the union minister to expedite the construction of water and electricity lines, as well as the clearing of forest land.
