A minibus accident in Sawjian, Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, killed at least nine people and injured many more on Wednesday morning. According to the reports, the injured were rushed to Mandi hospital for treatment. The search and rescue operation is currently underway.

Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of J&K, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and announced a 5 lakh ex gratia payment to the deceased’s next of kin. According to Sinha, the police and civil authorities have been directed to provide the best possible treatment to the injured.

“Saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident in Sawjian, Poonch. Condolences to bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Rs. 5 lakh would be given to the next of kin of the deceased. Directed Police and Civil authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured,” Sinha tweeted.

Mehbooba Mufti, chief of the J&K People’s Democratic Party, expressed shock at the accident and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

“Shocked to hear about the unfortunate accident at Sawajian Mandi in Poonch. Deepest condolences to the grieving families & prayers for the injured,” she said in a tweet.
