Nine newborn babies at West Bengal’s Murshidabad Medical College Hospital perished in a horrifying incident in less than a day. Public outrage has been sparked by the tragic incident. The babies were moved to Murshidabad Medical College from the Jangipur Sub-Divisional Hospital’s SNCU (Special Newborn Care Unit) because there were inadequate facilities, according to the authorities. According to them, the unexpected surge in patients caused severe strain on the already overburdened medical college, which ultimately led to the tragic deaths. 

The medical college principal also expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and acknowledged the need for a thorough investigation.
A medical board of renowned doctors has been constituted to investigate the incident.
The state health department has also issued a statement assuring that necessary measures will be taken to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
