The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to approach the court over the bomb explosions at BJP’s Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh’s house. The NIA is set to file a petition in a special court in Kolkata on Monday, seeking transfer of all documents and information related to the bomb blasts, from the state police to national investigators. According to the agency, an NIA official had a long phone conversation with Pawan Singh, son of Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh, on Monday night. The next day, on Tuesday morning, there was another explosion behind the MP’s house. Three live bombs were also recovered from the spot. Amid tight police administration and security, questions have already been raised about how the blast took place.

Security has been increased for BJP MP Arjun Singh after two consecutive days of bomb blasts targeting him in a week. Until now, he had Y+ category security. This time, his security has been enhanced to Z category by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Arjun Singh said he had been attacked 11 times earlier. He also alleged that the state government was planning to assassinate him, although such allegations have been denied by the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

The NIA has lodged an FIR in Delhi in connection with the bomb blast on Tuesday, shortly after taking charge of the probe. The NIA then demanded the transfer of all documents and evidence directly from the state police. In this regard, the investigators are approaching the special court for copies of all FIRs, case diaries and other documents filed with the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate in connection with the blasts. Request was made to speed up the investigation into the bombing of the MP’s house.

Arjun Singh’s son, Pawan Singh, is a BJP MLA from Bhatpara. The Bhatpara area has remained tense as the area was bombed again on Tuesday night despite tight police security. According to local sources, Kalabagan Gate No. 3 area of Bhatpara became tense again on Tuesday night. Miscreants carried out a surprise attack at night. It is alleged that a young man named Ajit Kumar Singh was hit with a pistol butt. Another man named Vishnudev Yadav was injured in the bomb blast. The two were taken to the Bhatpara State General Hospital. According to local sources, the two injured are workers of Jagddal JJI Jute Mill. Both of them were returning home after work at night. In this incident, the name of a person, Mohammad Sonu, has come up. Allegedly, a group led by Mohammad Sonu suddenly started hurling bombs in the area.

Within 24 hours of the NIA investigation, miscreants threw another bomb at the rear of Arjun Singh’s house and fled. After 7 September, questions are being raised about the role of the administration in the blasts. According to local sources, the miscreants suddenly threw a bomb behind Arjun Singh’s house at around 9 am. After the bombing on 6 September, 20 more CCTV cameras were installed in the area. Police picket has been increased. There are also CISF guards. The role of the police is being questioned in how such an incident took place. The MP’s house has already been sealed. Security has been tightened.

Last Wednesday, at around 7 am, a bomb exploded at the house of MP Arjun Singh within a foot and a half of the CISF patrol. Following the incident, several questions are being raised about the safety of MPs. Arjun Singh said, “Amit Shah talked over phone. Now, it’s time for my self-defence. You have to defend yourself.”
