Another person has been detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Coimbatore car bombing case from the previous year, which was inspired by ISISI. In that case, the primary accused perished in the terror explosion that was set off by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED).

The Coimbatore resident Mohammed Idris alias Idris was detained by the agency detectives for planning the terror attack that occurred on October 23, 2017, in front of the historic Arulmigu Kottai Sangameshwarar Thirukovil temple at Eswaran Kovil Street, Ukkadam in Coimbatore.

According to the NIA, Jamesha Mubeen, the deceased defendant with whom Idris had a close relationship, was operating the vehicle that had the IED in it. The NIA claimed that “Idris was involved in the secret conspiracy meetings with Jamesha and other accused persons in planning the terror attack.”

Further investigation by the NIA has shown that Jamesha was motivated and inspired by hardline ISIS doctrine and that she committed the terrorist act after pledging bayath, or allegiance, to the terrorist group’s self-declared Caliph, Abu-Al-Hasan Al-Hashimi Al-Qurashi.
